SRH won the toss and decided to bowl with a hope that they will have play with the Chepauk’s pitch but the surprises came in the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell and Shivam Dube delivering a dominant performance.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s impressive knock of 98 runs is well-supported by crucial contributions from Mitchell and Dube. The momentum further swung in their favour when Deshpande claimed two wickets in his first over including Abhishek Sharma & Travis Head.
Markram gave his full efforts to keep SRH in the game, but struggled to recover, especially with Klaasen’s slow innings of 21 runs off 20 balls. The slow knocks continuing against CSK costed the team a lot. Tushar Deshpande emerged as the star with four wickets, while Jadeja, Thakur Pathirana, and Mustafizur also made significant contributions with the ball. Ultimately, it culminated in a comprehensive 78-run victory for CSK which is the highest margin win in the IPL 2024.
Pat Cummins, SRH Skipper: “We thought chasing was our best chance to win but unfortunately it didn’t come off tonight. They Batted well but with our batting lineup, wicket was playing pretty well, so I thought we had a good chance. Nothing went right for us today but everyone in that lineup has won a game for us at some point this season. It’s definitely dewy now, but it was pretty dewy in the first innings as well. It’s only a couple of games so we’ll look to bounce back quickly.”
CSK Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is the Player of the Match
Ruturaj Gaikwad: “Feeling pretty good. Tough to play in such wet conditions, and to be able to win by 70-odd runs is a clinical performance. Was a blessing in disguise at the toss. Too hot and humid conditions. Even the last game, was there batting for 20 overs and fielding for 20 overs. Today also almost the same. Wasn’t thinking about a hundred. Wanted to make sure we get to 220-odd. Was disappointed that I missed 4-5 hits at the back end. During the innings break I felt it could make a difference and I was upset. But thankfully it was enough.”
